Hi...my questions are directed to each member of the panel.

* What motivated you to start writing Non-Fiction?

* How do approach writing about personal non-fiction matters that you want to be used as a self help or maybe healing in some way to your readers but don't want to expose real names?

* Is it difficult to stay disciplined to your fiction and non-fiction writings, especially if you are doing both at the same time? If so, how do you?

Hi Tempie,

I was motivated to write my nonfiction book, One Sister's Guide to Self-Publishing, after publishing my debut novel titled, Forgive Us This Day. While on the road promoting that book, I was inundated with questions regarding the publishing process. After awhile, I decided to write a simple guide to self-publishing. 2)You can write a nonfiction book without exposing real names. You have to state at the beginning of the book that names have been change to protect identities. I've seen this done alot with biographies. 3) It is very difficult to write fiction and nonfiction at the same time. However, I concentrated on one of them at at time. As soon as I finished my nonfiction book, I went right back to writing fiction because it's my first love. Thanks for your questions.

Do you have a website or blog or means to share your work? I would like to read some.

*I have met Dr. Rich before when he answered some of my questions on another post in another of the conference rooms.

did any of you take any courses in non fiction writing?

if so, were they local or through the national/international correspondance writing schools?

did you find them to be helpful and if so in what ways?

Hi Meri,

No, I didn't take any courses on writing nonfiction. I basically used my background in education and research to write my fiction and nonfiction books. Then, I found a good editor that was able to help me bring it all together in a professional manuscript. If you want to take a class, I would suggest the local community college as the least expensive avenue. And find an editor that's willing to evaluate your writing skills before you try to publish anything. Take care and keep in touch with me at amanipublishing@aol.com
